Overview

Junctional cadherin 5 associated pseudogene 1 (JCADP1) is a pseudogene located on human chromosome 21 (genomic coordinates chr21:39525583-39529855, hg38)[3]. Pseudogenes are nonfunctional segments of DNA that resemble functional genes[8]. JCADP1 is a sequence similar to the protein-coding gene JCAD, which encodes an endothelial cell-to-cell junction protein implicated in vascular biology and coronary artery disease[6][4]. However, JCADP1 itself does not encode a functional protein and has no established biological function, disease role, drug interactions, mechanism of action, or biomarker utility[1][3][8]. It is not considered a therapeutic target, receptor, enzyme, or transporter. There may be misinterpretations regarding its molecular role due to its similarity in name to the protein-coding JCAD gene, but JCADP1 itself is a non-coding pseudogene[1][3][8].

Biological functions

Other (Pseudogenes generally do not have protein-coding biological functions; some may have regulatory RNA activity, but no established function is reported for JCADP1)
03

Disease associations

Other (No direct role in disease established for JCADP1; pseudogenes can be implicated in disease through regulatory effects, but no evidence for JCADP1's disease association found)
