Target intelligence / Profile preview

Kainate-type glutamate receptor subunit GRIK3 (GRIK3)

Target
GRIK3
Molecular classification
Ligand-gated ion channel, Ionotropic glutamate receptor, Kainate receptor
01

Overview

GRIK3 is a subunit of the kainate receptor family of ionotropic glutamate receptors. It functions as an excitatory neurotransmitter receptor, mediating fast synaptic transmission in the central nervous system upon binding of L-glutamate or agonists like kainic acid. GRIK3 plays roles in synaptic potentiation and modulates synaptic plasticity. Overexpression has been linked to increased proliferation/migration of breast cancer cells.
