Target intelligence / Profile preview

Glutamate receptor ionotropic kainate type (Kainate receptor (KAR))

Target
Kainate receptor (KAR)
Molecular classification
Ion channel, Receptor
01

Overview

Kainate receptors are ionotropic glutamate receptors that play a role in excitatory and inhibitory neurotransmission. They are composed of five subunits (GluK1-5) and are involved in synaptic plasticity and various neurological functions. Kainate receptors are less understood than other glutamate receptors like AMPA and NMDA but are important for modulating neuronal circuitry.
