Kallikrein B1 (KLKB1)

Target
KLKB1
Molecular classification
Serine protease, Enzyme
01

Overview

Kallikrein B1 (KLKB1) is a serine protease that circulates in the blood as prekallikrein. Upon activation by factor XIIa, it becomes plasma kallikrein, playing key roles in blood coagulation, fibrinolysis, kinin generation (producing bradykinin), and inflammation. It participates in the intrinsic coagulation pathway and the kallikrein-kinin system (KKS). Deficiency of functional plasma kallikrein, due to mutations in KLKB1, leads to prekallikrein deficiency, typically asymptomatic.
