Overview

Kallikrein-related peptidase 11 (KLK11) is a member of the kallikrein subfamily of serine proteases, a group of enzymes recognized for their diverse physiological roles, including extracellular proteolysis and modulation of signaling pathways. KLK11 is encoded by the KLK11 gene, which is clustered with other kallikrein genes on chromosome 19. It is expressed as multiple transcript variants and protein isoforms due to alternative splicing. KLK11 is capable of efficiently cleaving certain peptide substrates after arginine residues and exhibits multifunctional protease activity. It is implicated in several physiological and pathological processes, notably carcinogenesis, and is being investigated as a biomarker for cancer diagnosis and prognosis. Additionally, KLK11 has been associated with rare skin disorders such as ichthyosis with erythrokeratoderma[1][2][6][7].
