Kallikrein-related Peptidase 14

Molecular classification
Enzyme, Serine protease
01

Overview

Kallikrein-related peptidase 14 (KLK14) is a serine protease involved in tissue remodeling, skin homeostasis, and cancer progression. It is produced as an inactive zymogen and activated by proteolytic cleavage. KLK14 participates in skin desquamation and is implicated in inflammatory skin diseases. It is overexpressed in prostate cancer and is associated with aggressive features and metastasis. It modulates signaling pathways relevant to cancer progression, including the MAP kinase and Interleukin-1 receptor pathways. KLK14 regulates genes involved in tumor biology and cellular migration/invasion. It is considered a potential therapeutic target and biomarker for cancer aggressiveness and treatment response.
