Overview

KANSL1 antisense RNA 1 (KANSL1-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA located on chromosome 17q21.31, transcribed antisense to the KANSL1 gene. Unlike protein-coding genes, KANSL1-AS1 does not encode a protein but is believed to regulate the expression of nearby or overlapping genes, including the KANSL1 gene that has a key role in chromatin modification and gene expression. Its function may include modulation of epigenetic states, acting through chromatin remodeling or other mechanisms of RNA-mediated regulation. KANSL1-AS1 is upregulated in certain cancers and has been reported as a prognostic marker in osteosarcoma, where its abnormal expression is significantly associated with disease progression and outcome. However, it is not classified as a direct therapeutic target such as a receptor, enzyme, or transporter, and no drugs are known to modulate KANSL1-AS1 specifically.
