Overview
Kapha dosha is one of the three fundamental physiological principles or 'doshas' in Ayurveda, representing the elements of earth and water (NIH NCCIH, 2023). It is traditionally described as providing structure, stability, and lubrication to the body, governing the formation of tissues and the maintenance of fluid balance (PMC2876930). In Ayurvedic theory, an imbalance in Kapha is linked to conditions such as obesity, respiratory disorders, and metabolic issues (Journal of Ayurveda and Integrative Medicine, 2015). However, Kapha dosha is a holistic conceptual framework rather than a specific molecular target, receptor, or enzyme recognized in modern pharmacology. It does not possess a defined biochemical structure or specific drug-binding sites, making it unsuitable for conventional drug discovery processes. Consequently, there are no recognized molecular interactions between Kapha dosha and modern pharmaceutical agents.
