Overview

Karyopherin subunit beta 1 pseudogene 1 (KPNB1P1) is a non-coding, nonfunctional DNA sequence present in the human genome that closely resembles the functional KPNB1 gene, which encodes importin subunit beta-1, a key nuclear transporter[4][5]. Unlike KPNB1, KPNB1P1 lacks the ability to produce a functional protein due to disabling mutations typical of pseudogenes, such as premature stop codons or frameshift indels[5]. Most pseudogenes, including KPNB1P1, do not participate in known biological processes, serve as therapeutic targets, or influence disease pathways. While a few pseudogenes can exert regulatory effects at the transcript level in some circumstances, no such function has been established for KPNB1P1. Therefore, it is not considered a therapeutic, diagnostic, or functional biomolecular target[4][5].

Biological functions

None established; pseudogenes generally lack protein-coding function, though rare pseudogenes may have regulatory RNA rolesNo evidence for functional biological activity for KPNB1P1
03

Disease associations

None known; unlike the related gene KPNB1, which is implicated in cancer and viral infection, no disease association is reported for KPNB1P1[1][4]
