Katanin p80 subunit B-like 1 pseudogene 5 (KATNBL1P5) is classified as a processed pseudogene, meaning it is a non-coding DNA sequence that closely resembles the protein-coding gene KATNBL1 but lacks the ability to encode a functional protein[2][7]. KATNBL1P5 is not considered a therapeutic target and is not known to function as an enzyme, transporter, receptor, or signaling molecule. There are currently no known drugs or therapeutic agents that interact with KATNBL1P5. Its only characterized biological association is through altered DNA methylation patterns observed in some disease models, such as macrophages infected with Leishmania[4][8]. Unlike its parental protein-coding gene KATNBL1, which participates in microtubule severing and cellular dynamics[1][3], KATNBL1P5 does not have known direct biological functions or disease roles, and its clinical relevance remains unclear.
