Overview

Katanin regulatory subunit B1-like 1 (KATNBL1) is a protein-coding gene that encodes a regulatory subunit of the katanin microtubule-severing complex[1][6]. Katanin complexes are heterodimers consisting of a catalytic A subunit with ATPase/severing activity and a regulatory B subunit[3]. KATNBL1 is a B-like regulatory subunit that modulates the severing activity of the catalytic subunit (such as KATNAL1) during mitosis, specifically localizing to spindle poles. It participates in positive regulation of microtubule organization and cytoskeleton architecture, particularly during cell division[1][6]. Unlike the canonical B subunit KATNB1, KATNBL1 is less widely conserved evolutionarily, suggesting a regulatory role unique to vertebrates[3]. There is no current evidence that KATNBL1 is a therapeutic drug target, nor are there drugs, biomarkers, or specific diseases directly linked as a result of its modulation[1][6].
