Katanin regulatory subunit B1 like 1 pseudogene 2 (KATNBL1P2) is a non-coding, human genomic sequence classified as a pseudogene, related by sequence similarity to functional katanin B1-like genes. Unlike protein-coding genes, KATNBL1P2 does not produce an active protein product and is not implicated as a functional molecule in drug targeting, disease biology, or biomarker applications. While other pseudogenes have sometimes been shown to regulate gene expression by acting as molecular sponges for microRNAs, there are currently no reports of KATNBL1P2 exhibiting such a function[6][2][8]. For context, the functional katanin B1 (KATNB1) is a regulatory subunit of the katanin microtubule-severing complex, involved in cytoskeletal dynamics and cell division, while KATNBL1P2 is a homologous pseudogene without a confirmed role in these or other cellular processes[3][7][5].
