KCND3 antisense RNA 1 (KCND3-AS1) is a long noncoding RNA located in close proximity to and transcribed antisense to the KCND3 gene, which encodes a subunit of a voltage-gated potassium channel critical in cardiac and neuronal electrical activity. KCND3-AS1 is thought to modulate KCND3 expression through mechanisms typical of lncRNAs, such as chromatin remodeling and influencing transcription and post-transcriptional processes. While its specific physiological functions are not fully described, genetic studies implicate this locus, including KCND3-AS1, in cardiovascular electrical properties and arrhythmia susceptibility, suggesting a potential role in gene regulatory networks affecting heart electrophysiology. There is no evidence establishing it as a drug target, diagnostic biomarker, or direct participant in known disease mechanisms outside its regulatory influence in the KCND3 genetic locus.
