KCNIP1 antisense RNA 1 (KCNIP1-AS1) is a long noncoding antisense RNA transcribed from the genomic region overlapping the KCNIP1 gene. KCNIP1-AS1 is categorized as a natural antisense transcript (NAT), and although its specific function is not characterized, similar NATs are known to regulate the expression and splicing of their sense gene counterparts through a range of transcriptional and post-transcriptional mechanisms. The sense gene, KCNIP1, encodes a calcium-binding protein that modulates voltage-gated potassium channels, and is functionally relevant in neuronal excitability and cardiac conduction[1][4]. NATs like KCNIP1-AS1 may influence these processes by modulating KCNIP1 transcript levels or processing.
