Overview

KCNK15 and WISP2 antisense RNA 1 (KCNK15-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) transcribed antisense to the KCNK15 and WISP2 genes[3][8]. It does not encode a protein but regulates the expression of neighboring and related genes via RNA-mediated mechanisms[4]. KCNK15-AS1 has been implicated in multiple cancers, playing divergent roles: it is generally **downregulated in pancreatic cancer, where its overexpression inhibits cell proliferation, migration, and EMT, and promotes apoptosis**[1][6]; in contrast, it is **overexpressed in lung adenocarcinoma, associated with poorer prognosis and appears to function as an oncogene**, enhancing proliferation by modulating the miR-202/miR-370/EGFR axis[2]. Its expression is subject to epigenetic regulation, especially m6A methylation status influenced by ALKBH5[1][6]. KCNK15-AS1 is emerging as a prognostic biomarker in both pancreatic and lung cancers, but it is not currently established as a therapeutic direct drug target, receptor, enzyme, or transporter, and no drugs are recorded to interact with it directly[2][8].
