KCTD21 antisense RNA 1 (KCTD21-AS1) is a long noncoding RNA (lncRNA) transcribed from the antisense strand of the KCTD21 gene locus on chromosome 11. It is classified as an antisense RNA, primarily involved in the regulation of KCTD21 gene expression, likely through epigenetic and transcriptional mechanisms that can act in cis or trans[1][7][4][10]. KCTD21-AS1 has been observed to be differentially expressed in certain cancers and may modulate gene expression related to processes such as phagocytosis and autophagy within the tumor microenvironment[10][9]. To date, KCTD21-AS1 has not been established as a direct therapeutic target, receptor, or enzyme, and no drugs are known to interact with it specifically. Current research suggests its main biological significance is as a regulatory RNA molecule affecting gene expression within specific cellular contexts[1][4][7][3][10].
