KEAP1 is a key regulatory protein that functions as an adaptor subunit of Cullin3-based E3 ubiquitin ligase complexes. It primarily regulates the transcription factor NRF2, promoting its degradation under normal conditions and releasing it under oxidative/electrophilic stress, leading to activation of antioxidant response element (ARE)-driven genes.
