Overview

Kelch-like protein 30 (KLHL30) is a member of the KLHL family, distinguished structurally by a BTB/POZ domain, BACK domain, and multiple Kelch motifs that form a β-propeller tertiary structure. KLHL30 is a cytoplasmic protein predicted to act as an adaptor within the cullin 3 ubiquitin ligase complex, facilitating protein degradation by targeting substrates for ubiquitination. Genes in this family are evolutionarily conserved and have roles in cellular morphology, protein-protein interaction, and protein catabolic processes. KLHL30 gene mutations have been associated with rare genetic muscle disorders, specifically congenital myopathy 23 and nemaline myopathy 8. Physiological and disease roles remain poorly characterized, and there is no evidence for existing selective drugs or routine biomarker utility.
