Target intelligence / Profile preview
Keratin, type II cuticular Hb4 (KRT84) is a type II hair keratin, part of the intermediate filament protein family that provides structural support to epithelial cells, particularly in hair and nails[1][2]. As a basic keratin, KRT84 heterodimerizes with type I keratins to form the structural framework of hair and nails. It is primarily expressed in hair follicles and also detected in the filiform papillae of the tongue[1][2]. Disease associations include Naegeli-Franceschetti-Jadassohn syndrome and palmoplantar keratoderma. This protein plays a structural role and is not a classical therapeutic target such as a receptor, enzyme, or transporter[1][5].
