Target intelligence / Profile preview
Keratin, type II cytoskeletal 73 (KRT73) is a structural protein belonging to the type II keratin family of intermediate filament proteins, responsible for maintaining the structural integrity of epithelial cells. It is specifically expressed in the inner root sheath of hair follicles where it contributes to hair formation and the architecture of hair shaft-producing cells. The protein has a molecular weight of 58.9 kDa and an isoelectric point of 7.3. Human KRT73 is encoded on chromosome 12q13.3 and is grouped with other hair follicle-specific keratins; its closest paralog is KRT71. Mutations or disruption in KRT73 can be associated with disorders of hair texture, such as woolly hair.
