Overview

Keratin 128 pseudogene (KRT128P) is one of eight identified human keratin pseudogenes (KRT121P–KRT128P) located in the type II keratin gene domain on chromosome 12q13.13. Specifically, KRT125P–KRT128P are classified as epithelial keratin pseudogenes and are considered nonfunctional, meaning they do not encode functional proteins and have no known biological or therapeutic relevance in humans. KRT128P does not correspond to an active gene or functional protein in the human genome, and therefore is not considered a molecular target for drugs or disease processes[1][2]. Key details: - KRT128P is a pseudogene—an inactive remnant of a gene that typically no longer encodes a protein product[1][2]. - It does not have a known biological function, nor is it associated with any diseases or used as a drug target[1][2]. - Some human keratin pseudogenes, including KRT128P, may have active gene counterparts in other species, but this is not the case for humans[1][2]. - No drugs, mechanisms of action, biomarkers, or safety concerns are associated with KRT128P. In summary, KRT128P is not a therapeutic target, as it is a nonfunctional pseudogene and not an active gene involved in any known biological pathway or disease[1][2].
