Overview

Keratin 18 pseudogene 10 (KRT18P10) is a processed pseudogene related to the keratin 18 (KRT18) gene[6][7]. Pseudogenes like KRT18P10 typically arise from gene duplication or retrotransposition events and do not encode functional proteins, as they often lack regulatory regions or contain disabling mutations[7]. The human genome contains many such keratin pseudogenes, most of which, including KRT18P10, lack an intact reading frame and are considered biologically inert[6][7]. There is no evidence that KRT18P10 participates in any known biological processes, disease pathways, or drug interactions. Clarifying Notes: - KRT18 (keratin 18), the functional gene, encodes a type I cytokeratin and is important in the cytoskeleton of epithelial cells, and is a known biomarker in several cancers[1][3][5]. However, KRT18P10 is merely a noncoding pseudogene and should not be confused with the functional KRT18 protein. - There are dozens of processed KRT18 pseudogenes scattered across the human genome, and none are believed to be functional[7]. Summary: KRT18P10 is not a receptor, enzyme, transporter, or any other molecular target of therapeutic interest. It is a pseudogene with no protein product or biological activity, does not participate in any known disease process, and has no relevance as a biomarker or therapeutic target[6][7].
