Overview
Keratin 18 pseudogene 13 (KRT18P13) is a noncoding, processed pseudogene related to the functional keratin 18 gene. It is dispersed in the genome as one of the numerous pseudogenes that share sequence similarity to keratin 18 but lack an intact reading frame, and is not transcribed into a functional protein. There is no evidence for direct involvement in cellular processes, disease, or drug response. The functional protein encoded by the related KRT18 gene is a type I intermediate filament important in epithelial tissue structure, cell cycle regulation, apoptosis, and is a biomarker in several cancers, but KRT18P13 itself does not share these properties and is not considered a biological or pharmacological target.
