Target intelligence / Profile preview
Keratin 18 pseudogene 25 (KRT18P25) is one of many processed pseudogenes derived from the mRNA of the functional keratin 18 gene (KRT18). While KRT18 codes for an epithelial intermediate filament protein important in tissue structure and disease, KRT18P25 does not code for a protein and is considered a nonfunctional genetic remnant. Pseudogenes such as KRT18P25 are widespread in the human genome and often arise from retrotransposition events involving highly expressed cytoskeletal genes. There are no known direct biological, clinical, or therapeutic applications for KRT18P25 itself[1][3].
