Overview

Keratin 18 pseudogene 29 (KRT18P29) is one of many processed pseudogenes derived from the keratin 18 gene and is dispersed throughout the human genome[3]. Pseudogenes are typically nonfunctional DNA segments that resemble known genes but do not produce functional proteins, and KRT18P29 does not have an intact reading frame or known biological activity[3]. There is no evidence that KRT18P29 acts as a therapeutic target, nor is it associated with disease processes or drug interaction pathways. KRT18P29 should not be confused with the functional keratin 18 gene (KRT18), which encodes a type I cytokeratin involved in epithelial cell structure and is a widely studied biomarker in cancer and tissue pathology[1][2][4][7]. KRT18P29 is a noncoding, nonfunctional pseudogene and not suitable as a molecular target.
