Target intelligence / Profile preview
Keratin 18 pseudogene 44 (KRT18P44) is a non-protein-coding pseudogene related to the Keratin 18 gene. Unlike the functional protein-coding gene KRT18, which encodes a cytoskeletal intermediate filament involved in epithelial cell structure and apoptosis[1][2][3][4], KRT18P44 does not produce a protein product and has no described biological or disease roles. There is no evidence of its use as a therapeutic target or biomarker. Its designation as a pseudogene implies it is a nonfunctional genomic sequence, and it should not be confused with the functional Keratin 18 protein.
