Overview
Keratin 18 pseudogene 51 (KRT18P51) is one of many processed pseudogenes derived from the type I keratin 18 (KRT18) gene, dispersed throughout the human genome. These pseudogenes do not encode an intact protein and are considered nonfunctional[3][5]. They are distinct from the functional KRT18 gene, which encodes an intermediate filament protein involved in epithelial cell structure and is a biomarker for several cancers, but pseudogenes such as KRT18P51 have no confirmed biological function, role in disease, or involvement with drugs. KRT18P51 should not be confused with the protein-coding KRT18 gene.
