Target intelligence / Profile preview
Keratin 18 pseudogene 67 (KRT18P67) is a processed, non-coding pseudogene related to the keratin 18 gene, itself part of the intermediate filament gene family. Keratin 18 is a major type I intermediate filament protein expressed in simple epithelial tissues and has important structural and regulatory roles in cell integrity, apoptosis, and liver function. However, the pseudogene KRT18P67 does not encode a functional protein and is not involved in any known biological pathway, disease process, or drug mechanism. There are dozens of processed pseudogenes (“KRT18Pxx” genes) derived from the active keratin 18 gene throughout the human genome, most of which have no documented function or pathology. No evidence supports the proposition that KRT18P67 is a pharmacological or biological target. Key points about KRT18P67: - KRT18P67 is a pseudogene, not a protein-coding gene. - It is one of many keratin 18-derived pseudogenes found in the genome, reflecting past retrotransposition and gene duplication events. - Pseudogenes such as KRT18P67 do not produce proteins and have no established role as therapeutic targets, biomarkers, or disease mediators. - Any searches for “keratin 18 pseudogene 67” as a target for drug discovery or biology are misguided; instead, focus should be on the functional gene **keratin 18 (KRT18)**.
