Target intelligence / Profile preview
Keratin 19 pseudogene 4 is a processed human pseudogene with high sequence homology to the protein-coding keratin 19 gene. It does not encode a functional protein due to mutations, termination codons, and frameshifts, and thus has no direct biological function. KRT19P4 and related pseudogenes can interfere with molecular diagnostics, specifically RT-PCR assays for keratin 19, by being inadvertently amplified and confounding assay results, which is a concern in cancer biomarker studies. The existence of KRT19P4 is well-documented in genomic databases and nomenclature systems.
