Target intelligence / Profile preview
Keratin 28 is a type I (acidic) keratin protein expressed mainly in the inner root sheath cells of human hair follicles. It has a molecular weight of approximately 50.5 kDa and an isoelectric point of 5.1. Keratins are a family of intermediate filament proteins that provide mechanical strength, structural integrity, and resilience to epithelial cells, with distinct members expressed in specific epithelial compartments. Keratin 28 forms part of a subset of keratins uniquely involved in hair follicle development and differentiation. Unlike many other proteins, keratins—including K28—are not generally considered classical drug targets but are important for understanding hair biology and related hereditary disorders.
