Overview

Keratin 42 pseudogene (KRT42P) is a human gene classified as a pseudogene within the type I keratin gene family. It lacks a functional coding sequence and therefore does not produce a protein product in humans. The corresponding gene in some non-human species (notably mouse and rat) encodes a functional keratin protein expressed mainly in nail tissue. In humans, however, KRT42P is nonfunctional and has no known biological or disease-associated role[1][3].
