Keratin 8 pseudogene 15 (KRT8P15)

Keratin 8 pseudogene 15 (KRT8P15) is one of the multiple processed pseudogenes derived from the functional keratin 8 gene (KRT8), a member of the type II keratin family. KRT8 encodes an intermediate filament protein expressed in simple epithelial tissues and is important for cellular structural integrity. However, KRT8P15, like most processed keratin 8 pseudogenes, is dispersed throughout the human genome and does not contain an intact open reading frame or encode a functional protein. There is no known biological function, disease association, or therapeutic application for KRT8P15 as it is a non-functional genomic element rather than a protein or biologically active product.
