Keratin 8 pseudogene 19 (KRT8P19) is a processed pseudogene derived from the keratin 8 gene (KRT8), which encodes a structural protein of the intermediate filament family important in epithelial cells. The KRT8P19 sequence is not transcribed into functional protein and has no known gene product or biological function. Human type II keratin pseudogenes like KRT8P19 are abundant in the genome, particularly for keratin 8, and represent inactive, nonfunctional copies without therapeutic target capability. There is no evidence that KRT8P19 has any role in disease, biomarker utility, or interaction with drugs. If a functional target is sought, refer to Keratin 8 (KRT8), which is a distinct, protein-coding gene. KRT8P19 is classified as a processed pseudogene related to the intermediate filament protein keratin 8.
