Keratin 8 pseudogene 23 (KRT8P23) is a processed pseudogene related to the KRT8 gene, which encodes keratin 8, a structural protein in simple epithelial cells. Pseudogenes like KRT8P23 are prevalent in the human genome, particularly for keratins 8 and 18, and derive from non-functional copies of coding genes. KRT8P23 does not produce a protein product, has no known biological activity, therapeutic relevance, or use as a biomarker or drug target.
