Keratin 8 pseudogene 27 (KRT8P27) is one of many processed pseudogenes derived from the Keratin 8 (KRT8) gene, itself a member of the type II intermediate filament protein family. KRT8P27 does not encode a functional protein, lacks documented biological or pathological roles, and is classified as a non-coding, non-functional segment of genomic DNA. The high number of KRT8 and KRT18 pseudogenes present in the human genome reflects historical duplication and retrotransposition events, but these pseudogenes have not been shown to contribute to cellular function or disease in humans[2][3][7].
