Target intelligence / Profile preview
Keratin 8 pseudogene 35 (KRT8P35) is one of the many processed pseudogenes related to the keratin 8 (KRT8) gene. These processed pseudogenes were formed by retrotransposition of mature KRT8 mRNA and are widely dispersed across the human genome. KRT8P35, like other keratin 8 pseudogenes, does not encode a functional protein, has no intact open reading frame, and is considered biologically inactive. The presence of numerous keratin 8 and keratin 18 pseudogenes is a notable feature in the human genome, but these pseudogenes, including KRT8P35, do not have known roles in health, disease, or therapeutic interventions. Keratin 8 (KRT8) and keratin 18 (KRT18) are both functional genes expressed in simple epithelial tissues, but the vast majority of their numerous processed pseudogenes, including KRT8P35, are nonfunctional and scattered throughout different chromosomes. None of these keratin 8 or 18 pseudogenes, including KRT8P35, contain an intact open reading frame, hence they do not produce a functional protein. Keratin pseudogenes are distinguished from functional keratin genes and are classified under "Other" or "Pseudogene" in molecular classification systems. KRT8P35 is a processed pseudogene of keratin 8 and does not function as a protein, receptor, or any other classical drug target. It has no direct biological function, disease association, or relevance as a therapeutic or diagnostic target.
