Keratin 8 pseudogene 36 (KRT8P36) is one of several processed pseudogenes in the human genome derived from the keratin 8 (KRT8) gene, which encodes a type II cytoskeletal protein expressed in simple epithelial cells[3]. KRT8P36 lacks an intact open reading frame and does not produce a functional protein[3]. Pseudogenes like KRT8P36 are generally considered genomic "fossils" and do not participate in structural or regulatory biological functions. As such, they are not considered therapeutic targets and have no known disease associations or relevance for drug interaction, safety, or biomarker use[3]. The principal active gene in this family is KRT8, with numerous related processed pseudogenes distributed throughout the genome[3].
