Target intelligence / Profile preview
Keratin 8 pseudogene 4 (KRT8P4) is a processed pseudogene that is part of the keratin multigene family. It is not transcribed into protein and has no known biological function. Pseudogenes such as KRT8P4 are relics of evolutionary duplication events; many keratin 8 and keratin 18 processed pseudogenes are scattered throughout the human genome, but almost none contain an intact reading frame or functional product. KRT8P4 is officially named and cataloged by the HUGO Gene Nomenclature Committee (HGNC).
