Target intelligence / Profile preview
Keratin 8 pseudogene 45 (KRT8P45) is a human genomic pseudogene located on chromosome 1 (chr1:157073257-157074703, hg38 reference)[1]. Pseudogenes such as KRT8P45 are derived from functional genes—in this case, Keratin 8 (KRT8)—but do not produce functional proteins due to disruptive mutations or loss of coding capacity.[1][6] KRT8P45 is not a protein-coding gene, does not function as a receptor, enzyme, or transporter, and no drugs or biomarkers are associated with it. Its clinical or biological importance is limited to genomic annotation. The functional Keratin 8, unrelated to KRT8P45, is an intermediate filament protein involved in cytoskeletal integrity in epithelial cells and has disease associations, but KRT8P45 does not share these properties[6][3][8][11].
