Keratin 8 pseudogene 49 (KRT8P49) is a processed pseudogene derived from the coding sequence of the functional keratin 8 (KRT8) gene[3]. Pseudogenes such as KRT8P49 do not encode functional proteins, and the vast majority of keratin 8- and 18-related pseudogenes are nonfunctional, found scattered throughout the human genome as the remnants of retrotranspositional or duplication events[3]. There is no evidence that KRT8P49 encodes a biological product or has a direct biological role. As such, it is not considered a therapeutic target, does not interact with drugs, and is not relevant as a disease biomarker or therapeutic concern in biomedical research.
