Target intelligence / Profile preview
Keratin 8 pseudogene 51 (KRT8P51) is a processed pseudogene in the human genome related to the keratin 8 gene, which encodes a cytoskeletal intermediate filament protein. KRT8P51 does not produce a functional protein and is one of many dispersed pseudogenes for keratin 8 identified in the human genome. Pseudogenes such as KRT8P51 neither function as receptors, enzymes, or therapeutic targets, nor do they exhibit known biological activity, disease association, or drug interactions. The parent protein, Keratin 8, is biologically active and associated with epithelial structure and disease when mutated, but KRT8P51 does not encode the protein and has no direct biological function[4][6][7].
