Target intelligence / Profile preview
Keratin 8 pseudogene 9 (KRT8P9) is one of several processed pseudogenes derived from the keratin 8 (KRT8) gene. Pseudogenes are segments of DNA that resemble functional genes but lack the ability to encode functional proteins due to disruptive mutations or incomplete gene sequences. In the human genome, keratin 8 and keratin 18 genes have given rise to many processed pseudogenes, with keratin 8 alone generating over 30 such elements. These pseudogenes are widely distributed across different chromosomes and do not contain intact open reading frames, meaning that they do not produce protein products. KRT8P9 itself is not known to have any function in biology or disease, nor is it a target for drugs or used as a biomarker.
