Overview

Keratin-associated protein 10-1 (KRTAP10-1) is a member of the high sulfur keratin-associated protein (KAP) family, encoded by an intronless gene on human chromosome 21q22.3[1][2][7]. KRTAP10-1 is an essential structural component of hair fibers, forming an interfilamentous matrix around keratin intermediate filaments in the hair cortex and contributing to the rigidity and resilience of the hair shaft[1][2][4]. These proteins contain abundant cysteine residues, enabling extensive disulfide cross-linking with hair keratins, which is critical for the mechanical properties of hair[4]. KRTAP10-1 shows high expression in hair and possibly related epithelial tissues, but is not considered a drug target, receptor, enzyme, or therapeutic target in current biomedical literature[1][2][3][4].
