Overview

Keratin-associated protein 10-2 (KRTAP10-2) is a member of the high sulfur-type keratin-associated protein (KAP) family, which forms the interfilamentous matrix surrounding keratin intermediate filaments in the hair cortex[1][5][11]. Through extensive disulfide bond cross-linking, these proteins contribute to the formation of a rigid and resistant hair shaft. The gene is located in a cluster of similar genes on chromosome 21q22.3. KRTAP10-2 is not classified as a therapeutic target, such as a druggable receptor or enzyme, but rather serves a structural role in hair fiber formation and integrity[1][5][7][11]. No drugs are known to target this protein, and it is not associated with established disease roles or use as a clinical biomarker.

Biological functions

Structural component of hairforms a matrix with keratins to impart rigidity and strength to the hair shaft via extensive disulfide cross-linking

Disease associations

None established as a primary disease driverassociated with monogenic disorders only indirectly (e.g., related to hair/fiber structure or rare congenital syndromes in database correlations, not mechanistically)
