Overview

Keratin-associated protein 10-3 (KRTAP10-3) is a member of the keratin-associated protein (KAP) family, which plays a key structural role in hair fiber formation. These proteins create a matrix that integrates with keratin intermediate filaments, providing the structural rigidity and resistance of hair shafts. KRTAP10-3 belongs to the high-sulfur subgroup of KAPs and is found within an intronless gene cluster on human chromosome 21q22.3. Its main function is the cross-linking with abundant cysteine-rich hair keratins via disulfide bonds, essential for the mechanical properties of hair. KRTAP10-3 is not currently considered a receptor, enzyme, or a typical therapeutic target, but it is important in hair biology and structure[1][2].
