The proteins encoded by KRTAP genes form disulfide cross-links with cysteine residues of hair keratins, providing mechanical strength, rigidity, and stability to hair fibers[1]. KRTAP10-5 belongs to the high-sulfur subgroup of keratin-associated proteins and is found in the matrix embedding hair keratin filaments in the hair cortex[1][3]. These proteins are not considered classical therapeutic targets, but they play a substantial role in hair development and morphology. There are no established drugs that directly interact with KRTAP10-5, and it is not a known biomarker or safety concern for therapeutics[1][3][4].
