Keratin-associated protein 13-4 (KRTAP13-4)

Target
KRTAP13-4
Molecular classification
Other, keratin-associated protein, structural protein
01

Overview

Keratin-associated protein 13-4 is a member of the KAP (keratin-associated proteins) family, which forms a critical part of the interfilamentous matrix embedding keratin intermediate filaments within the hair cortex. Through abundant cysteine residues, KRTAP13-4 participates extensively in disulfide bond cross-linking with hair keratins, thereby contributing to the formation of a rigid and resilient hair shaft. KRTAP13-4 is a structural, non-enzymatic protein encoded by a gene located on human chromosome 21. Its primary role is in hair biology, and there is no evidence supporting its function as a classical therapeutic target such as a receptor, enzyme, transporter, or transcription factor[4].
