Keratin-associated protein 19-2 (KRTAP19-2) is a member of the keratin-associated protein family, a large group of proteins that play structural roles in the formation and mechanical properties of hair fibers[1][4]. KRTAP19-2 is encoded by a single exon gene located on human chromosome 16[3]. Like other KRTAPs, this protein interacts with keratins in hair-producing cells (trichocytes), contributing to the formation and characteristics of hair fibers such as thickness, strength, and texture[1]. While the overall family of KRTAPs is highly diverse and some members are linked to properties in wool and hair, KRTAP19-2 specifically is primarily recognized as a minor structural protein in human hair, with no evidence supporting a role as a therapeutic target, disease marker, or receptor[1][4][5]. There is no known direct association with any drugs, biomarkers, or safety issues.
