Keratin associated protein 19-4 (KAP19-4)

Target
KAP19-4
Molecular classification
Keratin-associated protein, Structural protein, Intermediate filament-associated protein
01

Overview

Keratin associated protein 19-4 is a structural protein encoded by the KRTAP19-4 gene and belongs to the family of keratin-associated proteins found predominantly in hair. It is a high-sulfur protein that participates in forming a matrix surrounding the hair keratin intermediate filaments in the hair cortex, strengthening the hair shaft through extensive disulfide cross-linking with cysteine-rich keratins[1][3][4][9]. While it plays a crucial role in hair structure and mechanical properties, it is not considered a therapeutic target, nor is it known to be directly involved in major human diseases outside the context of hair biology[1][4].
