Keratin-associated protein 2-1 (KRTAP2-1) is a member of the keratin-associated protein family, specifically a high-sulfur protein that forms part of the structural matrix in the hair cortex[1][2][3]. These proteins are essential for hair shaft formation, binding to keratin filaments and contributing to hair’s rigidity and resilience by extensive cross-linking through disulfide bonds formed between cysteine residues[1][2].
